Traverse Hiking App:
Purposeful App Redesign

Summary

Traverse is a hiking app designed to help users easily find, save, and track hikes. This project focused on a complete redesign, improving the user interface and experience while rebranding the app’s identity. It involved reworking the UX for smoother navigation, enhancing the UI for better accessibility, and developing a distinct brand identity—including a new app name, logo, and brand kit.

My Role

Redesign hiking app user experience, user interface, and branding.

New Brand Kit

The Traverse brand kit establishes a cohesive visual identity for the redesigned hiking app. The final logo features extended descenders on the "T" and "R"s, symbolizing the various trails users can explore. The name "Traverse" was carefully selected after generating over 30 potential names and surveying a diverse group, ensuring broad appeal. The brand kit includes a thoughtfully curated color palette balancing warm and cool tones, typography, and a favicon designed for the app’s home screen icon.

Logo Thumbnails

This logo thumbnail process highlights the exploration of different logomarks, typography, and layout variations for the brand’s identity. Through multiple iterations, I experimented with mountain and sun elements, adjusted type treatments, and tested various compositions. This process ensured the final logo captured the essence of outdoor adventure while remaining distinctive.

Wireframes

These wireframes outline the app’s structure, mapping key navigation, functionality, and user flow. Both linked and unlinked versions illustrate the progression from initial layout concepts to interactive prototypes. These wireframes helped refine the app’s usability, ensuring smooth navigation, clear user pathways, and accessibility throughout the design process.
